2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the Synagogues, that if he found any that were of that [a]way, (either men or women) he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 Now as he journeyed, it came to pass that as he was come near to Damascus, (A)suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven.
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus,(A) so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way,(B) whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.(C) 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice(D) say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
