9 But some Jews were against him. They belonged to a synagogue of Free Men[a] (as it was called). (This synagogue was also for Jews from Cyrene and from Alexandria.) Jews from Cilicia and Asia were also with them. They all came and argued with Stephen.
10 But the Spirit was helping him to speak with wisdom. His words were so strong that they could not argue with him. 11 So they paid some men to say, “We heard him say things against Moses and against God!”

9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene(A) and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia(B) and Asia(C)—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.(D)
11 Then they secretly(E) persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”(F)
