20 Bringing them before the chief magistrates, they said, “These men are seriously disturbing our city. They are Jews 21 and are promoting customs that are not legal for us as Romans to adopt or practice.”(A)
22 Then the mob joined in the attack against them, and the chief magistrates stripped off their clothes and ordered them to be beaten with rods.(B)

20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar(A) 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans(B) to accept or practice.”(C)
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.(D)
