34 As to his raising him from the dead, never to return to decay, he has spoken in this way, I will give you the holy and sure promises of David.[a](A) 35 Therefore he also says in another passage, You will not let your Holy One see decay.[b](B) 36 For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep,(C) was buried with his fathers, and decayed,(D)

New International Version
34 God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said,
35 So it is also stated elsewhere:
36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep;(C) he was buried with his ancestors(D) and his body decayed.
