Herod Causes Trouble for the Church

12 At that time King Herod[a] caused terrible suffering for some members of the church. He ordered soldiers to cut off the head of James, the brother of John. (A) When Herod saw that this pleased the Jewish people, he had Peter arrested during the Festival of Thin Bread.

12 It was about this time that King Herod(A) arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John,(B) put to death with the sword.(C) When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews,(D) he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.(E)
