Remember the nation you purchased(A) long ago,(B)
    the people of your inheritance,(C) whom you redeemed(D)
    Mount Zion,(E) where you dwelt.(F)
Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,(G)
    all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.

Your foes roared(H) in the place where you met with us;
    they set up their standards(I) as signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes
    to cut through a thicket of trees.(J)
They smashed all the carved(K) paneling
    with their axes and hatchets.
They burned your sanctuary to the ground;
    they defiled(L) the dwelling place(M) of your Name.(N)
They said in their hearts, “We will crush(O) them completely!”
    They burned(P) every place where God was worshiped in the land.
