2 Samuel 5:8-10

8 “On that day,” David said, “whoever attacks the Jebusites should strike the windpipe because David hates the lame and the blind.”[a] That is why people say, “The blind and the lame will not enter the temple.”[b] 9 David occupied the fortress, so it was renamed David’s City. David built a city around it from the earthen terraces[c] inward.[d] 10 David grew increasingly powerful, and the Lord of heavenly forces was with him.

New International Version
8 On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft(A) to reach those ‘lame and blind’(B) who are David’s enemies.[a]” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”
9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces[b](C) inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful,(D) because the Lord God Almighty(E) was with him.(F)
