2 Samuel 5:7-9
International Standard Version
7 Even so, David captured the stronghold of Zion, which is now known as[a] the City of David.
8 At that time,[b] David had said, “Whoever intends to attack the Jebusites will have to climb up the water shaft to attack the lame and blind, who hate David.”[c]
Therefore they say, “The blind and lame are never to come into the house.” 9 David occupied[d] the fortress, naming it the City of David. He[e] built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts[f] inward.

2 Samuel 5:7-9
New International Version
7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion(A)—which is the City of David.(B)
8 On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft(C) to reach those ‘lame and blind’(D) who are David’s enemies.[a]” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”
9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces[b](E) inward.
