3 So David made a contract before the Lord with the leaders of Israel there at Hebron, and they crowned him king of Israel. 4-5 (He had already been the king of Judah for seven years, since the age of thirty. He then ruled thirty-three years in Jerusalem as king of both Israel and Judah; so he reigned for forty years altogether.)

New International Version
3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant(A) with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed(B) David king over Israel.
4 David was thirty years old(C) when he became king, and he reigned(D) forty(E) years. 5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months,(F) and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.
