38 Then the king said to his servants, “Do you not realize that a great leader[a] has fallen this day in Israel? 39 Today I am weak, even though I am anointed as king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too much for me to bear![b] May the Lord punish appropriately the one who has done this evil thing!”[c]

38 Then the king said to his men, “Do you not realize that a commander and a great man has fallen(A) in Israel this day? 39 And today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah(B) are too strong(C) for me.(D) May the Lord repay(E) the evildoer according to his evil deeds!”
