9 Joab gave the king the total of the registration of the troops. There were 800,000 fighting men from Israel and 500,000 men from Judah.(A)
10 David’s conscience troubled him(B) after he had taken a census of the troops. He said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I’ve done. Now, Lord, because I’ve been very foolish,(C) please take away Your servant’s guilt.”

11 When David got up in the morning, a revelation from the Lord had come to the prophet Gad,(D) David’s seer:(E)

9 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.(A)
10 David was conscience-stricken(B) after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the Lord, “I have sinned(C) greatly in what I have done. Now, Lord, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.(D)”
11 Before David got up the next morning, the word of the Lord had come to Gad(E) the prophet, David’s seer:(F)
