18 Then she went on to say: “There is a saying from long ago,[a] ‘Let them ask if they will in Abel or in Dan whether loyalty is finished 19 or ended in Israel.’ You are seeking to batter down a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you wish to swallow up the heritage of the Lord?”(A) 20 Joab answered, “Not at all, not at all! I do not wish to swallow or batter anything.

18 She continued, “Long ago they used to say, ‘Get your answer at Abel,’ and that settled it. 19 We are the peaceful(A) and faithful in Israel. You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?”(B)
20 “Far be it from me!” Joab replied, “Far be it from me to swallow up or destroy!
