21 Abishai asked, “Shall not Shimei die, for he cursed the Lord’s chosen king!”
22 “Don’t talk to me like that!” David exclaimed. “This is not a day for execution but for celebration! I am once more king of Israel!”
23 Then, turning to Shimei, he vowed, “Your life is spared.”

New International Version
21 Then Abishai(A) son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed(B) the Lord’s anointed.”(C)
22 David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah?(D) What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today?(E) Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?” 23 So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” And the king promised him on oath.(F)
