5 [a]For this they willingly know not, that the heavens were of old, and the [b]earth that was of the water, and by the water, by the word of God.
6 [c]Wherefore the world that then was, perished, overflowed with the [d]water.
7 [e]But the heavens and earth, which are now, are kept by the same word in store, and reserved unto fire against the day of condemnation, and of the destruction of ungodly men.

5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word(A) the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.(B) 6 By these waters also the world of that time(C) was deluged and destroyed.(D) 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire,(E) being kept for the day of judgment(F) and destruction of the ungodly.
