Judah’s King Jehoiakim

34 Then(A) Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim(B) son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim.(C) But Neco took Jehoahaz and went to Egypt, and he died there.(D) 35 So Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh, but at Pharaoh’s command he taxed the land to give the money. He exacted the silver and the gold from the common people,[a] each man according to his assessment,(E) to give it to Pharaoh Neco.

36 Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he became king and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah, from Rumah. 37 He did what was evil(F) in the Lord’s sight just as his ancestors had done.

Jehoiakim’s Rebellion and Death

24 During(G) Jehoiakim’s reign,(H) Nebuchadnezzar(I) king of Babylon(J) attacked.(K) Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years, and then he turned and rebelled against him. The Lord sent Chaldean, Aramean,(L) Moabite,(M) and Ammonite raiders against Jehoiakim. He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord He had spoken through His servants the prophets.(N) Indeed, this happened to Judah at the Lord’s command to remove them from His sight.(O) It was because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all he had done,(P) and also because of all the innocent blood he had shed. He had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood,(Q) and the Lord would not forgive.

The rest of the events of Jehoiakim’s reign, along with all his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Judah’s Kings.(R) Jehoiakim rested with his fathers, and his son Jehoiachin became king in his place.(S)

Now the king of Egypt did not march out of his land again,(T) for the king of Babylon took everything that belonged to the king of Egypt,(U) from the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River.(V)

Judah’s King Jehoiachin

Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he became king and reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan, from Jerusalem.(W) He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight as his father had done.

Deportations to Babylon

10 At that time(X) the servants of Nebuchadnezzar(Y) king of Babylon marched up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege. 11 Then King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to the city while his servants were besieging it. 12 Jehoiachin king of Judah, along with his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials, surrendered to the king of Babylon.(Z)

So the king of Babylon took him captive in the eighth year of his reign. 13 He also carried off from there all the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king’s palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made(AA) for the Lord’s sanctuary, just as God had predicted.(AB) 14 Then he deported all Jerusalem and all the commanders and all the fighting men,(AC) 10,000 captives,(AD) and all the craftsmen and metalsmiths.(AE) Except for the poorest people of the land,(AF) no one remained.

15 Nebuchadnezzar deported Jehoiachin to Babylon. Also, he took the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officials, and the leading men of the land into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.(AG) 16 The king of Babylon also brought captive into Babylon all 7,000 fighting men and 1,000 craftsmen and metalsmiths—all strong and fit for war. 17 Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s[b] uncle,[c] king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.(AH)

Judah’s King Zedekiah

18 Zedekiah(AI) was 21 years old when he became king(AJ) and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal(AK) daughter of Jeremiah, from Libnah. 19 Zedekiah did what was evil in the Lord’s sight just as Jehoiakim had done.(AL)

34 Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim(A) son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, and there he died.(B) 35 Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh Necho the silver and gold he demanded. In order to do so, he taxed the land and exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land according to their assessments.(C)

Jehoiakim King of Judah(D)

36 Jehoiakim(E) was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah; she was from Rumah. 37 And he did evil(F) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done.

24 During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar(G) king of Babylon invaded(H) the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he turned against Nebuchadnezzar and rebelled.(I) The Lord sent Babylonian,[a](J) Aramean,(K) Moabite and Ammonite raiders(L) against him to destroy(M) Judah, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by his servants the prophets.(N) Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command,(O) in order to remove them from his presence(P) because of the sins of Manasseh(Q) and all he had done, including the shedding of innocent blood.(R) For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive.(S)

As for the other events of Jehoiakim’s reign,(T) and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? Jehoiakim rested(U) with his ancestors. And Jehoiachin(V) his son succeeded him as king.

The king of Egypt(W) did not march out from his own country again, because the king of Babylon(X) had taken all his territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.

Jehoiachin King of Judah(Y)

Jehoiachin(Z) was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta(AA) daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem. He did evil(AB) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father had done.

10 At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar(AC) king of Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege to it, 11 and Nebuchadnezzar himself came up to the city while his officers were besieging it. 12 Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered(AD) to him.

In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner. 13 As the Lord had declared,(AE) Nebuchadnezzar removed the treasures(AF) from the temple of the Lord and from the royal palace, and cut up the gold articles(AG) that Solomon(AH) king of Israel had made for the temple of the Lord. 14 He carried all Jerusalem into exile:(AI) all the officers and fighting men,(AJ) and all the skilled workers and artisans—a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest(AK) people of the land were left.

15 Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin(AL) captive to Babylon. He also took from Jerusalem to Babylon the king’s mother,(AM) his wives, his officials and the prominent people(AN) of the land. 16 The king of Babylon also deported to Babylon the entire force of seven thousand fighting men, strong and fit for war, and a thousand skilled workers and artisans.(AO) 17 He made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.(AP)

Zedekiah King of Judah(AQ)

18 Zedekiah(AR) was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal(AS) daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah. 19 He did evil(AT) in the eyes of the Lord, just as Jehoiakim had done.

Judah’s King Jehoiakim

Then Neco king of Egypt made Jehoahaz’s brother Eliakim king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took his brother Jehoahaz[a] and brought him to Egypt.(A)

Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he became king and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord his God.(B) Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him(C) and bound him in bronze(D) shackles to take him to Babylon.(E) Also Nebuchadnezzar took some of the utensils of the Lord’s temple to Babylon and put them in his temple in Babylon.(F)

The rest of the deeds of Jehoiakim,(G) the detestable things he did, and what was found against him, are written in the Book of Israel’s Kings. His son Jehoiachin became king in his place.
