35 It happened in that night that an angel of Yahweh went out, and he struck down one hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of Assyria. When they got up early in the morning, look! All of them were dead corpses. 36 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria set out and went and returned and lived in Nineveh.

New International Version

34 I will defend(A) this city and save it,
    for my sake and for the sake of David(B) my servant.’”

35 That night the angel of the Lord(C) went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning—there were all the dead bodies!(D) 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew.(E) He returned to Nineveh(F) and stayed there.
