²⁰ “Yet you did not take away their evil heart from them, so that your law might produce fruit in them.^{(A) 21} For the first Adam, burdened with an evil heart, transgressed and was overcome, as were also all who were descended from him.^{(B) 22} Thus the disease became permanent; the law was in the hearts of the people along with the evil root, but what was good departed, and the evil remained.^(C)

⁴⁸ For an evil heart has grown up in us that has alienated us from these and has brought us into corruption and the ways of death and has shown us the paths of perdition and removed us far from life—and that not merely for a few but for almost all who have been created.”^(A)

¹² His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”^(A)

³⁰ Let both of them grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ”^(A)

³⁹ and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.^(A)

¹⁵ Another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to the one who sat on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.”^(A)
