The Fall of Jerusalem(A)(B)
15 The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers(C) again and again,(D) because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed(E) at his prophets until the wrath(F) of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.(G) 17 He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians,[a](H) who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and did not spare young men(I) or young women, the elderly or the infirm.(J) God gave them all into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar.(K) 18 He carried to Babylon all the articles(L) from the temple of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king and his officials. 19 They set fire(M) to God’s temple(N) and broke down the wall(O) of Jerusalem; they burned all the palaces and destroyed(P) everything of value there.(Q)
20 He carried into exile(R) to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants(S) to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21 The land enjoyed its sabbath rests;(T) all the time of its desolation it rested,(U) until the seventy years(V) were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.

16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.
18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon.
19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.
20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
21 To fulfil the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

3 It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah,(A) and in the end he thrust them from his presence.(B)
Now Zedekiah rebelled(C) against the king of Babylon.
4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth(D) day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem(E) with his whole army. They encamped outside the city and built siege works(F) all around it.(G) 5 The city was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
6 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no food for the people to eat.(H) 7 Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole army fled.(I) They left the city at night through the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden, though the Babylonians[a] were surrounding the city. They fled toward the Arabah,[b] 8 but the Babylonian[c] army pursued King Zedekiah and overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his soldiers were separated from him and scattered, 9 and he was captured.(J)
He was taken to the king of Babylon at Riblah(K) in the land of Hamath,(L) where he pronounced sentence on him. 10 There at Riblah the king of Babylon killed the sons(M) of Zedekiah before his eyes; he also killed all the officials of Judah. 11 Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon, where he put him in prison till the day of his death.(N)

3 For through the anger of the Lord it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
5 So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.
6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.
11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.
