19 Again, do you think that we are excusing ourselves to you? In the sight of God we speak in Christ. But all things, beloved, are for your edifying. 20 For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you don’t desire, that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, or riots, 21 that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness, sexual immorality, and lustfulness which they committed.

19 Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? We have been speaking in the sight of God(A) as those in Christ; and everything we do, dear friends,(B) is for your strengthening.(C) 20 For I am afraid that when I come(D) I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be.(E) I fear that there may be discord,(F) jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition,(G) slander,(H) gossip,(I) arrogance(J) and disorder.(K) 21 I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved(L) over many who have sinned earlier(M) and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery(N) in which they have indulged.
