10 Ac i Ahab yr oedd deng mab a thrigain yn Samaria. A Jehu a ysgrifennodd lythyrau, ac a anfonodd i Samaria, at dywysogion Jesreel, ac at yr henuriaid, ac at dadmaethod Ahab, gan ddywedyd, Ac yn awr pan ddêl y llythyr hwn atoch chwi, canys gyda chwi y mae meibion eich arglwydd, a chennych chwi y mae cerbydau, a meirch, a dinasoedd caerog, ac arfau: Yna edrychwch yr hwn sydd orau, ac yn gymhwysaf o feibion eich arglwydd, a gosodwch ef ar deyrngadair ei dad, ac ymleddwch dros dŷ eich arglwydd. A hwy a ofnasant yn ddirfawr, ac a ddywedasant, Wele, dau frenin ni safasant o’i flaen ef: pa fodd gan hynny y safwn ni? Am hynny yr anfonodd yr hwn oedd ar y tŷ, a’r hwn oedd ar y ddinas, a’r henuriaid, a’r tadmaethod, at Jehu, gan ddywedyd, Dy weision di ydym ni, a’r hyn oll a ddywedych di wrthym a wnawn ni; ni wnawn ni neb yn frenin: gwna yr hyn a fyddo da yn dy olwg. Yna efe a ysgrifennodd yr ail lythyr atynt hwy, gan ddywedyd, Os eiddof fi fyddwch, ac os ar fy llais i y gwrandewch, cymerwch bennau y gwŷr, meibion eich arglwydd, a deuwch ataf fi y pryd hwn yfory i Jesreel. A meibion y brenin, sef deng nyn a thrigain, oedd gyda phenaethiaid y ddinas, y rhai oedd yn eu meithrin hwynt. A phan ddaeth y llythyr atynt, hwy a gymerasant feibion y brenin, ac a laddasant ddeng nyn a thrigain, ac a osodasant eu pennau hwynt mewn basgedau, ac a’u danfonasant ato ef i Jesreel.

A chennad a ddaeth ac a fynegodd iddo ef, gan ddywedyd, Hwy a ddygasant bennau meibion y brenin. Dywedodd yntau, Gosodwch hwynt yn ddau bentwr wrth ddrws y porth hyd y bore. A’r bore efe a aeth allan, ac a safodd, ac a ddywedodd wrth yr holl bobl, Cyfiawn ydych chwi: wele, myfi a gydfwriedais yn erbyn fy arglwydd, ac a’i lleddais ef: ond pwy a laddodd yr holl rai hyn? 10 Gwybyddwch yn awr na syrth dim o air yr Arglwydd i’r ddaear, yr hwn a lefarodd yr Arglwydd am dŷ Ahab: canys gwnaeth yr Arglwydd yr hyn a lefarodd efe trwy law Eleias ei was. 11 Felly Jehu a drawodd holl weddillion tŷ Ahab yn Jesreel, a’i holl benaethiaid ef, a’i gyfneseifiaid ef, a’i offeiriaid, fel na adawyd un yng ngweddill.

12 Ac efe a gyfododd, ac a aeth ymaith hefyd, ac a ddaeth i Samaria. Ac fel yr oedd efe wrth dŷ cneifio y bugeiliaid ar y ffordd, 13 Jehu a gyfarfu â brodyr Ahaseia brenin Jwda, ac a ddywedodd, Pwy ydych chwi? Dywedasant hwythau, Brodyr Ahaseia ydym ni; a ni a ddaethom i waered i gyfarch gwell i feibion y brenin, ac i feibion y frenhines. 14 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Deliwch hwynt yn fyw. A hwy a’u daliasant hwy yn fyw, ac a’u lladdasant hwy wrth bydew y tŷ cneifio, sef dau ŵr a deugain, ac ni adawodd efe ŵr ohonynt.

15 A phan aethai efe oddi yno, efe a gyfarfu â Jehonadab mab Rechab yn cyfarfod ag ef, ac a gyfarchodd well iddo, ac a ddywedodd wrtho, A yw dy galon di yn uniawn, fel y mae fy nghalon i gyda’th galon di? A dywedodd Jehonadab, Ydyw. Od ydyw, eb efe, moes dy law. Rhoddodd yntau ei law, ac efe a barodd iddo ddyfod i fyny ato i’r cerbyd. 16 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Tyred gyda mi, a gwêl fy sêl i tuag at yr Arglwydd. Felly hwy a wnaethant iddo farchogaeth yn ei gerbyd ef. 17 A phan ddaeth efe i Samaria, efe a drawodd yr holl rai a adawsid i Ahab yn Samaria, nes iddo ei ddinistrio ef, yn ôl gair yr Arglwydd, yr hwn a lefarasai efe wrth Eleias.

18 A Jehu a gynullodd yr holl bobl ynghyd, ac a ddywedodd wrthynt, Ahab a wasanaethodd Baal ychydig, ond Jehu a’i gwasanaetha ef lawer. 19 Ac yn awr gelwch ataf fi holl broffwydi Baal, ei holl weision, a’i holl offeiriaid ef, na fydded un yn eisiau; canys aberth mawr sydd gennyf i Baal: pwy bynnag a fyddo yn eisiau, ni bydd efe byw. Ond Jehu a wnaeth hyn mewn cyfrwystra, fel y difethai efe addolwyr Baal. 20 A Jehu a ddywedodd, Cyhoeddwch gymanfa sanctaidd i Baal. A hwy a’i cyhoeddasant. 21 A Jehu a anfonodd trwy holl Israel; a holl addolwyr Baal a ddaethant, ac nid oedd un yn eisiau a’r ni ddaethai: a hwy a ddaethant i dŷ Baal, a llanwyd tŷ Baal o ben bwygilydd. 22 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrth yr hwn oedd geidwad ar y gwisgoedd, Dwg allan wisgoedd i holl addolwyr Baal. Ac efe a ddug wisgoedd iddynt. 23 A Jehu a aeth i mewn, a Jehonadab mab Rechab, i dŷ Baal, ac a ddywedodd wrth addolwyr Baal, Chwiliwch ac edrychwch, rhag bod yma gyda chwi neb o weision yr Arglwydd, ond addolwyr Baal yn unig. 24 A phan ddaethant i mewn i wneuthur aberthau, a phoethoffrymau, Jehu a osododd iddo allan bedwar ugeinwr, ac a ddywedodd, Os dianc yr un o’r dynion a ddygais i’ch dwylo chwi, einioes yr hwn y dihango ganddo fydd am ei einioes ef. 25 A phan orffennodd efe wneuthur y poethoffrwm, Jehu a ddywedodd wrth y swyddogion a’r tywysogion, Ewch i mewn, lleddwch hwynt, na ddeled neb allan. Felly hwy a’u trawsant hwy â min y cleddyf: a’r swyddogion a’r tywysogion a’u taflasant hwy allan, ac a aethant i ddinas tŷ Baal. 26 A hwy a ddygasant allan ddelwau tŷ Baal, ac a’u llosgasant hwy. 27 A hwy a ddistrywiasant ddelw Baal, ac a ddinistriasant dŷ Baal, ac a’i gwnaethant ef yn domdy hyd heddiw. 28 Felly y dileodd Jehu Baal allan o Israel.

29 Eto pechodau Jeroboam mab Nebat, yr hwn a wnaeth i Israel bechu, ni throdd Jehu oddi wrthynt hwy, sef oddi wrth y lloi aur oedd yn Bethel, a’r rhai oedd yn Dan. 30 A’r Arglwydd a ddywedodd wrth Jehu, Oherwydd i ti wneuthur yn dda, gan wneuthur yr hyn oedd uniawn yn fy ngolwg i, yn ôl yr hyn oll a’r a oedd yn fy nghalon i y gwnaethost i dŷ Ahab, meibion y bedwaredd genhedlaeth i ti a eisteddant ar orseddfainc Israel. 31 Ond nid edrychodd Jehu am rodio yng nghyfraith Arglwydd Dduw Israel â’i holl galon: canys ni throdd efe oddi wrth bechodau Jeroboam, yr hwn a wnaeth i Israel bechu.

32 Yn y dyddiau hynny y dechreuodd yr Arglwydd dorri cyrrau Israel: a Hasael a’u trawodd hwynt yn holl derfynau Israel; 33 O’r Iorddonen tua chodiad haul, sef holl wlad Gilead, y Gadiaid, a’r Reubeniaid, a’r Manassiaid, o Aroer, yr hon sydd wrth afon Arnon, Gilead a Basan hefyd. 34 A’r rhan arall o hanes Jehu, a’r hyn oll a’r a wnaeth efe, a’i holl gadernid ef; onid ydynt hwy yn ysgrifenedig yn llyfr cronicl brenhinoedd Israel? 35 A Jehu a hunodd gyda’i dadau, a chladdwyd ef yn Samaria, a Joahas ei fab a deyrnasodd yn ei le ef. 36 A’r dyddiau y teyrnasodd Jehu ar Israel yn Samaria oedd wyth mlynedd ar hugain.

Ahab’s Family Killed

10 Now there were in Samaria(A) seventy sons(B) of the house of Ahab. So Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria: to the officials of Jezreel,[a](C) to the elders and to the guardians(D) of Ahab’s children. He said, “You have your master’s sons with you and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city and weapons. Now as soon as this letter reaches you, choose the best and most worthy of your master’s sons and set him on his father’s throne. Then fight for your master’s house.”

But they were terrified and said, “If two kings could not resist him, how can we?”

So the palace administrator, the city governor, the elders and the guardians sent this message to Jehu: “We are your servants(E) and we will do anything you say. We will not appoint anyone as king; you do whatever you think best.”

Then Jehu wrote them a second letter, saying, “If you are on my side and will obey me, take the heads of your master’s sons and come to me in Jezreel by this time tomorrow.”

Now the royal princes, seventy of them, were with the leading men of the city, who were rearing them. When the letter arrived, these men took the princes and slaughtered all seventy(F) of them. They put their heads(G) in baskets and sent them to Jehu in Jezreel. When the messenger arrived, he told Jehu, “They have brought the heads of the princes.”

Then Jehu ordered, “Put them in two piles at the entrance of the city gate until morning.”

The next morning Jehu went out. He stood before all the people and said, “You are innocent. It was I who conspired against my master and killed him, but who killed all these? 10 Know, then, that not a word the Lord has spoken against the house of Ahab will fail. The Lord has done what he announced(H) through his servant Elijah.”(I) 11 So Jehu(J) killed everyone in Jezreel who remained of the house of Ahab, as well as all his chief men, his close friends and his priests, leaving him no survivor.(K)

12 Jehu then set out and went toward Samaria. At Beth Eked of the Shepherds, 13 he met some relatives of Ahaziah king of Judah and asked, “Who are you?”

They said, “We are relatives of Ahaziah,(L) and we have come down to greet the families of the king and of the queen mother.(M)

14 “Take them alive!” he ordered. So they took them alive and slaughtered them by the well of Beth Eked—forty-two of them. He left no survivor.(N)

15 After he left there, he came upon Jehonadab(O) son of Rekab,(P) who was on his way to meet him. Jehu greeted him and said, “Are you in accord with me, as I am with you?”

“I am,” Jehonadab answered.

“If so,” said Jehu, “give me your hand.”(Q) So he did, and Jehu helped him up into the chariot. 16 Jehu said, “Come with me and see my zeal(R) for the Lord.” Then he had him ride along in his chariot.

17 When Jehu came to Samaria, he killed all who were left there of Ahab’s family;(S) he destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord spoken to Elijah.

Servants of Baal Killed

18 Then Jehu brought all the people together and said to them, “Ahab served(T) Baal a little; Jehu will serve him much. 19 Now summon(U) all the prophets of Baal, all his servants and all his priests. See that no one is missing, because I am going to hold a great sacrifice for Baal. Anyone who fails to come will no longer live.” But Jehu was acting deceptively in order to destroy the servants of Baal.

20 Jehu said, “Call an assembly(V) in honor of Baal.” So they proclaimed it. 21 Then he sent word throughout Israel, and all the servants of Baal came; not one stayed away. They crowded into the temple of Baal until it was full from one end to the other. 22 And Jehu said to the keeper of the wardrobe, “Bring robes for all the servants of Baal.” So he brought out robes for them.

23 Then Jehu and Jehonadab son of Rekab went into the temple of Baal. Jehu said to the servants of Baal, “Look around and see that no one who serves the Lord is here with you—only servants of Baal.” 24 So they went in to make sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had posted eighty men outside with this warning: “If one of you lets any of the men I am placing in your hands escape, it will be your life for his life.”(W)

25 As soon as Jehu had finished making the burnt offering, he ordered the guards and officers: “Go in and kill(X) them; let no one escape.”(Y) So they cut them down with the sword. The guards and officers threw the bodies out and then entered the inner shrine of the temple of Baal. 26 They brought the sacred stone(Z) out of the temple of Baal and burned it. 27 They demolished the sacred stone of Baal and tore down the temple(AA) of Baal, and people have used it for a latrine to this day.

28 So Jehu(AB) destroyed Baal worship in Israel. 29 However, he did not turn away from the sins(AC) of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit—the worship of the golden calves(AD) at Bethel(AE) and Dan.

30 The Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in accomplishing what is right in my eyes and have done to the house of Ahab all I had in mind to do, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”(AF) 31 Yet Jehu was not careful(AG) to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins(AH) of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.

32 In those days the Lord began to reduce(AI) the size of Israel. Hazael(AJ) overpowered the Israelites throughout their territory 33 east of the Jordan in all the land of Gilead (the region of Gad, Reuben and Manasseh), from Aroer(AK) by the Arnon(AL) Gorge through Gilead to Bashan.

34 As for the other events of Jehu’s reign, all he did, and all his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals(AM) of the kings of Israel?

35 Jehu rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son succeeded him as king. 36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.
