¹⁵ When Saul saw how successful he was, he was afraid of him.

²⁹ Saul became still more afraid^(A) of him, and he remained his enemy the rest of his days.

¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed^(A) him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord^(B) came powerfully upon David.^(C) Samuel then went to Ramah.

¹⁵ Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”

“I am in great distress,” Saul said. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed^(A) from me. He no longer answers^(B) me, either by prophets or by dreams.^(C) So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
