¹³ And David said to his men, “Every man strap on his sword!” And every man of them strapped on his sword. David also strapped on his sword. And ^(A)about four hundred men went up after David, ^(B)while two hundred ^(C)remained with the baggage.

² So David arose and went over, he and ^(A)the six hundred men who were with him, ^(B)to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

^2 (A)And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul,^[a] gathered to him. And he became captain over them. And there were with him ^(B)about four hundred men.

⁹ So David set out, and ^(A)the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed. ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men. ^(B)Two hundred stayed behind, who were too exhausted to cross the brook Besor.
