Samuel Anoints Saul

10 Then ^(A)Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, ^(B)and kissed him and said: “Is it not because ^(C)the Lord has anointed you commander over ^(D)His ^[a]inheritance?

³ Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.”

¹² So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ^(A)ruddy, ^(B)with ^[a]bright eyes, and good-looking. ^(C)And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”

^4 (A)Then the men of Judah came, and there they ^(B)anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, ^(C)“The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.”

^3 (A)Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, ^(B)and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron ^(C)before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.

¹⁶ Also you shall anoint ^(A)Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And ^(B)Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.

³ Then ^(A)take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I have anointed you king over Israel.” ’ Then open the door and flee, and do not delay.”

¹² And he brought out the king’s son, put the crown on him, and gave him the ^(A)Testimony;^[a] they made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, ^(B)“Long live the king!”

²² So they ate and drank before the Lord with great gladness on that day. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and ^(A)anointed him before the Lord to be the leader, and Zadok to be priest.
