Footnotes

  1. 1 Maccabees 3:24 About eight hundred: scholars agree that the numbers in this Book are indicative rather than real. In accord with biblical usage, they serve as a barometer of the measure of the victory achieved or the importance of the battle waged rather than as an actual count of those involved.
