⁶ Now David had said, “Whoever strikes Jebus first will be the commander and leader of the army,” so Joab, the son of Zeruiah, went up first and became the commander.

⁷ Then David dwelt in the stronghold, which is why they called it the City of David, ⁸ and he fortified the city all around from the Millo encircling the stronghold, while Joab preserved the rest of the city.
