3 So you can see that we were not preaching with any false motives or evil purposes in mind; we were perfectly straightforward and sincere.
4 For we speak as messengers from God, trusted by him to tell the truth; we change his message not one bit to suit the taste of those who hear it; for we serve God alone, who examines our hearts’ deepest thoughts. 5 Never once did we try to win you with flattery, as you very well know, and God knows we were not just pretending to be your friends so that you would give us money!

3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives,(A) nor are we trying to trick you.(B) 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.(C) We are not trying to please people(D) but God, who tests our hearts.(E) 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed(F)—God is our witness.(G)
