3 For our appeal does not come from error or impure motives, or by way of deceit. 4 Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please people but God, who examines our hearts. 5 Indeed, as you know, we never at any time used flattering speech, nor did we act with greed as a motive. God is our witness.

3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives,(A) nor are we trying to trick you.(B) 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.(C) We are not trying to please people(D) but God, who tests our hearts.(E) 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed(F)—God is our witness.(G)
