They went through the mountains of Ephraim and the region of Shalisha without finding the donkeys. Then Saul and his servant went through the region of Shaalim, but the donkeys weren’t there. The men went through the territory of Benjamin but still didn’t find them. When they came to the territory of Zuph, Saul told his servant who was with him, “Let’s go back, or my father will stop worrying about the donkeys and worry about us instead.”

Saul Seeks Samuel’s Advice

The servant responded, “There’s a man of Elohim in this city, a highly respected man. Everything he says is sure to happen. Let’s go there. Maybe he’ll tell us which way we should go.”

So he passed through the hill(A) country of Ephraim and through the area around Shalisha,(B) but they did not find them. They went on into the district of Shaalim, but the donkeys(C) were not there. Then he passed through the territory of Benjamin, but they did not find them.

When they reached the district of Zuph,(D) Saul said to the servant who was with him, “Come, let’s go back, or my father will stop thinking about the donkeys and start worrying(E) about us.”

But the servant replied, “Look, in this town there is a man of God;(F) he is highly respected, and everything(G) he says comes true. Let’s go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take.”
