10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten down, and fled every man into his tent: and there was an exceeding great slaughter, for there fell of Israel [a]thirty thousand footmen.
11 And the Ark of God was taken, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas died.
12 And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes [b]rent, and earth upon his head.

New International Version
10 So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated(A) and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers. 11 The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.(B)

12 That same day a Benjamite(C) ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh with his clothes torn and dust(D) on his head.
