16 “Why do you ask me,” Samuel said, “since the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy?[a] 17 The Lord has done to you[b] exactly what he spoke through me: The Lord has ripped the kingdom out of your hands and has given it to your friend David. 18 The Lord has done this very thing to you today because you didn’t listen to the Lord’s voice and didn’t carry out his fierce anger against the Amalekites.

16 Samuel said, “Why do you consult me, now that the Lord has departed from you and become your enemy? 17 The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn(A) the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbors—to David. 18 Because you did not obey(B) the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath(C) against the Amalekites,(D) the Lord has done this to you today.
