^20 (A)Now one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, ^(B)escaped and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the Lord’s priests. ²² So David said to Abiathar, “I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have caused the death of all the persons of your father’s ^[a]house. ²³ Stay with me; do not fear. ^(C)For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you shall be safe.”

⁶ Now it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech ^(A)fled to David at Keilah, that he went down with an ephod in his hand.

^7 (A)Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And ^(B)Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

²² And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, “Now why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also—for he is my ^(A)older brother—for him, and for ^(B)Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.”

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to ^(A)Anathoth, to your own fields, for ^[a]you are deserving of death; but I will not put you to death at this time, ^(B)because you carried the ark of the Lord God before my father David, and because you were afflicted every time my father was afflicted.”

²⁷ So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, that he might ^(A)fulfill the word of the Lord which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh.

⁶ And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,
