16 Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David: “May the Lord punish any violation of this covenant by the hand of David’s enemies.”[a] 17 Jonathan made David vow again out of his love for him, because he loved him as himself.

16 So Jonathan(A) made a covenant(B) with the house of David, saying, “May the Lord call David’s enemies to account.(C)” 17 And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath(D) out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.
