17 So Jonathan again made a pledge to David[b] because he loved David as much as himself. 18 “Tomorrow is the festival of the new moon,” Jonathan told David. “You will be missed because your seat will be empty.

New International Version
16 So Jonathan(A) made a covenant(B) with the house of David, saying, “May the Lord call David’s enemies to account.(C)” 17 And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath(D) out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.
18 Then Jonathan said to David, “Tomorrow is the New Moon feast. You will be missed, because your seat will be empty.(E)
