32 Distress will settle down to live in your household, and despite all the good that I do for Israel,[a] there will never be an old man in your family forever, and you will never again have an old man in my house.[b] 33 Any of you whom I don’t eliminate from serving at my altar will grow tired from weeping,[c] and their[d] souls will grieve. All the increase of your family will die by violence.[e] 34 Here’s a sign for you—your two sons Hophni and Phineas will both die on the same day!

32 and you will see distress(A) in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.(B) 33 Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants(C) will die in the prime of life.
34 “‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign(D) to you—they will both die(E) on the same day.(F)
