1 Samuel 18:6-8
Amplified Bible
6 As they were coming [home], when David returned from killing the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with tambourines, [songs of] joy, and [a]musical instruments. 7 The women sang as they played and danced, saying,
“Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands.”
8 Then Saul became very angry, for this saying [b]displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed [only] thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”
