⁵⁵ As soon as Saul saw David go out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, ^(A)the commander of the army, “Abner, ^(B)whose son is this youth?” And Abner said, ^(C)“As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.”

³ But David vowed again, saying, “Your father knows well that ^(A)I have found favor in your eyes, and he thinks, ‘Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved.’ But truly, ^(B)as the Lord lives and ^(C)as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

¹¹ Uriah said to David, ^(A)“The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in booths, and my lord Joab and ^(B)the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live, and ^(C)as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.”

² And Elijah said to Elisha, ^(A)“Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, ^(B)“As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

⁴ Elijah said to him, “Elisha, ^(A)please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to ^(B)Jericho.” But he said, ^(C)“As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.
