²⁸ When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard David speaking to the men, he burned with anger against David. He said, “Why have you come down? Who is taking care of those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the mischief in your heart. You have come down just to see the battle.”

²⁹ David said, “What have I done now? Can’t I say anything?”^{[a] 30} So David turned away from him toward another person, and he asked the same thing again, and the soldiers again answered him the same way.
