25 “Did all of you see this man coming up?” one Israeli asked. “He comes up to defy[a] Israel, and the king will richly reward the man who kills him. He will give his daughter to him and will make his father’s house tax[b] free in Israel.”

26 David asked the men who were standing by him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? Indeed, who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy[c] the armies of the living God?”

27 The people also told him the same thing,[d] saying, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

27 They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, “This is what will be done for the man who kills him.”

26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
