¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him^(A) in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully on David from that day forward.^(B) Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them^(A) at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.

⁴ David was thirty years old when he began his reign;^(B) he reigned forty years. ⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.
