1 Samuel 14:42-44

The Voice

Saul (to the priest): ⁴²Cast again to see whether it is me or my son Jonathan.

The results indicated Jonathan.

Saul (to Jonathan): ⁴³What have you done?

Jonathan: I certainly tasted a little honey with the tip of the staff I carried. I am ready to die.

Saul: ⁴⁴May the True God do the same and more to me, my son. Jonathan, you must die.

New International Version

⁴²Saul said, “Cast the lot^(A) between me and Jonathan my son.” And Jonathan was taken.

⁴³Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done.”^(B)

So Jonathan told him, “I tasted a little honey^(C) with the end of my staff. And now I must die!”

⁴⁴Saul said, “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,^(D) if you do not die, Jonathan.^(E)”
