1 Samuel 14:42-44

New King James Version

⁴²And Saul said, “Cast lots between my son Jonathan and me.” So Jonathan was taken. ⁴³Then Saul said to Jonathan, ^(A)“Tell me what you have done.”

And Jonathan told him, and said, ^(B)“I only tasted a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. So now I must die!”

⁴⁴Saul answered, ^(C)“God do so and more also; ^(D)for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”

⁴²Saul said, “Cast the lot^(A) between me and Jonathan my son.” And Jonathan was taken.

⁴³Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done.”^(B)

So Jonathan told him, “I tasted a little honey^(C) with the end of my staff. And now I must die!”

⁴⁴Saul said, “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely,^(D) if you do not die, Jonathan.^(E)”
