17 The Philistines sent out three small groups of soldiers to attack towns in Israel. One group went towards Ophrah in the land of Shual. 18 The second group went towards Beth Horon. The third group went to Israel's border where they could see across Zeboim Valley towards the wilderness.

19 At that time, there were no people in Israel who could use iron to make things. The Philistines had said, ‘We must not let the Hebrew people make swords and spears.’

17 Raiding(A) parties went out from the Philistine camp in three detachments. One turned toward Ophrah(B) in the vicinity of Shual, 18 another toward Beth Horon,(C) and the third toward the borderland overlooking the Valley of Zeboyim(D) facing the wilderness.

19 Not a blacksmith(E) could be found in the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines had said, “Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears!(F)
