¹⁴ but now your reign will not endure.^(A) The Lord has found a man after his own heart,^[a](B) and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over his people, because you have not done what the Lord commanded.”

⁴ I will raise up shepherds over them who will tend them.^(A) They will no longer be afraid or discouraged, nor will any be missing.”^(B) This is the Lord’s declaration.

²³ I will establish over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will shepherd them. He will tend them himself and will be their shepherd.^(A)

²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock^(A) of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers,^(B) to shepherd the church of God,^[a] which he purchased with his own blood.^(C)
