The elders of Jabesh said to him: “Give us seven days to send messengers throughout the territory of Israel. If there is no one to save us, we will surrender to you.” When the messengers arrived at Gibeah of Saul and reported the news in the people’s hearing, they all wept aloud. Just then Saul came in from the field, behind his oxen. “Why are the people weeping?” he asked. They repeated the message of the inhabitants of Jabesh for him.

The elders(A) of Jabesh said to him, “Give us seven days so we can send messengers throughout Israel; if no one comes to rescue(B) us, we will surrender(C) to you.”

When the messengers came to Gibeah(D) of Saul and reported these terms to the people, they all wept(E) aloud. Just then Saul was returning from the fields, behind his oxen, and he asked, “What is wrong with everyone? Why are they weeping?” Then they repeated to him what the men of Jabesh had said.
