²⁷But some scoundrels^(A) said, “How can this fellow save us?” They despised him and brought him no gifts.^(B) But Saul kept silent.

²⁷But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

²⁰So Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread,^(A) a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul.

²⁰And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

¹⁶A gift^(A) opens the way
and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.

¹⁶A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
