The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer. I consecrate this Temple which you have built as the place where I shall be worshiped forever. I will watch over it and protect it for all time. If you will serve me in honesty and integrity, as your father David did, and if you obey my laws and do everything I have commanded you, (A)I will keep the promise I made to your father David when I told him that Israel would always be ruled by his descendants.

The Lord said to him:

“I have heard(A) the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name(B) there forever. My eyes(C) and my heart will always be there.

“As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart(D) and uprightness, as David(E) your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws,(F) I will establish(G) your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail(H) to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’

12 the Lord appeared to him at night. He said to him, “I have heard your prayer, and I accept this Temple as the place where sacrifices are to be offered to me. 13 Whenever I hold back the rain or send locusts to eat up the crops or send an epidemic on my people, 14 if they pray to me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them in heaven, forgive their sins, and make their land prosperous again. 15 I will watch over this Temple and be ready to hear all the prayers that are offered here, 16 because I have chosen it and consecrated it as the place where I will be worshiped forever. I will watch over it and protect it for all time. 17 If you serve me faithfully as your father David did, obeying my laws and doing everything I have commanded you, 18 (A)I will keep the promise I made to your father David when I told him that Israel would always be ruled by his descendants.

12 the Lord appeared(A) to him at night and said:

“I have heard your prayer and have chosen(B) this place for myself(C) as a temple for sacrifices.

13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain,(D) or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name,(E) will humble(F) themselves and pray and seek my face(G) and turn(H) from their wicked ways, then I will hear(I) from heaven, and I will forgive(J) their sin and will heal(K) their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.(L) 16 I have chosen(M) and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

17 “As for you, if you walk before me faithfully(N) as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees(O) and laws, 18 I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted(P) with David your father when I said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor(Q) to rule over Israel.’(R)
