38 when prayer or supplication is made by anyone or by all Your people Israel—each knowing the plague of his own heart—when one spreads his hands toward this House, 39 then may you hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, forgive and act, and give to each man according to all his ways, as You know his heart to be. For You alone know the hearts of all the children of men. [a] 40 Then they will fear You all the days that they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.

38 and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone among your people Israel—being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts, and spreading out their hands(A) toward this temple— 39 then hear(B) from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive(C) and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know(D) their hearts (for you alone know every human heart), 40 so that they will fear(E) you all the time they live in the land(F) you gave our ancestors.
