17 But Rehoboam ruled the Israelites who lived in the cities of Judah.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram to Israel. He was in charge of forced labor, but they stoned him to death. So King Rehoboam got on his chariot as fast as he could and fled to Jerusalem. 19 Israel has rebelled against David’s dynasty to this day.

New International Version
17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah,(A) Rehoboam still ruled over them.
18 King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram,[a](B) who was in charge of forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death.(C) King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David(D) to this day.
