⁵Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

⁶These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, ⁷or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, “The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.”^[a]

⁶Now these things occurred as examples^(B) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. ⁷Do not be idolaters,^(C) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”^[a]^(D)
