5 But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the wilderness.(A)
6 Now these things became examples for us, so that we will not desire(B) evil things as they did.[a](C) 7 Don’t become idolaters(D) as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to play.[b](E)[c]

New International Version
5 Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.(A)
6 Now these things occurred as examples(B) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters,(C) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](D)
